Top Ten Female Harry Potter Characters

I have always loved magic harnessed by wizards and witches within the fantasy universe. I thought it would be interesting to express my thoughts of each character, especially after completely watching all the eight films and reading all seven novels, thus in the form of a top ten list.

  1. Narcissa Malfoy is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but she shines the most in the seventh book, Harry Potter and The Deathly HallowsNarcissa is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Helen McCrory. Narcissa is the wife to Lucius Malfoy and mother to Draco. She was not a death eater but believed in the concept of blood purity. She supported her husband’s views about the dark lord, yet her view changed after his imprisonment after the battle at the ministry.

    Her goal was to protect her family going as far as lying to the dark lord that Harry Potter was dead, thus leading to the dark lord’s defeat. The act also kept her family from being place in prison after the end of the war. It’s clear Narcisa hate’s her daughter-in-law because she has different views of the wizarding world.

    9. Pomona Sprout is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the second book, Harry Potter and The Chamber of SecretsPomona is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Miriam Margolyes. Pomona is the head of Hufflepuff and professor of Herbology. Many describe her as being a deadly yet kind hearted woman.

    She cares about her students and treats the plants in the greenhouses like her children. She took part in the battle at the school assisting a group of students with throwing deadly plants at the death eaters. After the war she took on Neville Longbottom as an assistive teacher before allowing him to take over once he received his mastery in Herbology.

    8. Rowena Ravenclaw is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the seventh book, Harry Potter and The Deathly HallowsRowena is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Kelly Macdonald. Rowena is one of the original four founders of the school. Rowena was a natural seer and saw the future of the school once it was created.

    She was noted as the greatest witch of her time, being intelligent yet intimidating at the same time. She created Ravenclaw house and passed away from an illness during the eleventh century. Many think it was due to her daughter Helena, running away with a diadem, a magical item that once place on a person’s head would give them unlimited intelligence. Helena became the grey lady a ghost at Hogwarts and reveals its location to Harry hoping to destroy the curse placed upon it.

    7. Lily Potter is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the sixth book, Harry Potter and The Half-Blooded PrinceLily is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Geraldine Somerville.

    Lily was married to James Potter and mother to Harry. She was a bright and powerful witch who was friends with Severus Snape until their fifth year when he called her a mud-blood which is an insult to muggleborns.

    Muggleborns means one who is born with dirty blood or not pure. Like her son was a lion during her school years gaining the title of perfect and head girl before graduation. She was studying for her mastery in charms under the mentorship of Finwick. She wanted to create new charms and take over allowing the half goblin to retire. Unfraternally, she was forced to go into hiding and was killed by the dark lord. She would not move aside and allow the man to kill her son placing a protection on Harry upon her death.

    6. Nythadora “Tonks” Black is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the fifth book, Harry Potter and The Order of the PhoenixNythadora is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Natalia Gastiain. Nythadora preferred by the name Tonks to her actual name and was born with the gift of metamorpheous allowing her to change her form at will. A trait passed down to her son Yeddy after marrying Remus Lupin.

    She was sorted in Hufflepuff while attending school and after graduation became an auror. She was mentored under Abastor Moody. Despite being a bit clumsy she was a powerful witch and made a name of herself in the magical law enforcement department. She went undercover at the ministry for the order performing several tasks. During the battle of Hogwarts, she was killed by her aunt Beellatrix Lestrange

    5. Minerva McGonagall is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the seventh book, Harry Potter and The Deathly HallowsMinerva is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Maggie Smith. Minerva is the Deputy headmistress of Hogwarts, head of Gryffindor and professor of transmutation.

    The Scottish witch has the natural ability to change her form into a tabby cat which she used during the first war to gather information. Despite being injured during the battle of the ministry she continued teaching and was a protector of the students during the war on the school. Her personality is that of a lioness protective of her cubs and defending them with her life. Many describe her as a powerful no nonsenses witch despite her amusement at the Weasley twin pranks.

    4. Amelia Bones is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the fifth book, Harry Potter and The Order of the PhoenixAmelia is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Slan Thomas. Amelia is the head of the ministry’s department of magical law enforcement. Her niece Susan was attending Hogwarts.

    She adopted the name Susan, after most of her family was murdered during the reign of the dark lord before his defeat by the baby Harry Potter. She was a fair and powerful witch who believed Harry that the dark lord was back. She tried to gain more money for her aurors despite being denied by the ministry. She was killed by the dark lord but not before taking a group of death eaters with her.

    3. Hermone Grangeris featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the second book, Harry Potter and The Chamber of SecretsMinerva is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Emma Watson. She is nicknamed the smartest witch in her year despite being a muggleborn. Hermone felt that she had to study hard to chat up to her peers that grew up in the magical world. She was placed in Gryffindor despite having the mind of a Ravenclaw.

    She’s the brains in the trio learning the spells needed to get them out of trouble. In their fifth year, she creates Dumbodore’s Army, stating that it was created by Potter to get more people involve. She also creates coins to tell members when there were meetings and to send messages. She can be a bit demanding and bossy. In the same year, she created S.P.E.W to help house elves not understanding why they enjoy working for wizards instead of being free and not listening to what the elves wanted.

    2. Luna Lovegoodis featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the second book, Harry Potter and The Chamber of SecretsLuna is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by Evanna Lynch. Luna is nicknamed Looney Luna by her peers she is a unique student in the house of the raven.

    Luna can see creatures that belong in the fey world. She makes up words like nardles to describe emotions and different types of people. She is bullied by girls in her own house either by having her shoes and school supplies stolen or being locked out of the tower. Instead of being sad or upset Luna always has a cheerful look on life. Like Harry she was four when she saw her mother dies during a potions explosion allowing her to see the thestials that pull the Hogwarts carriages.

Daphne Greengrass is featured in all the novels within the Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling, but he shines the most in the second book, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. Daphne is also featured in the films adapting the series (2001-2017) voiced by  She was sorted into Slytherin and attended during the same year as Potter.

    Daphne is nicknamed the ice queen given her cold exterior to other people. Her sister Astoria joins the school during Daphne’s second year and is very protective of her. Her family along with her friend Tracy Davis are grey meaning they don’t join either side of the war.
