Disney’s Big Hero 6 Review

The exposure of super heroes continues through animation and Disney studios. After the success of The Incredibles, Disney decided to continue the theme with Big Hero 6. Inspiration for the film, came from the Marvel Comic, Big Hero 6 created by Man of Action. After the film’s commercial success, the film became adapted to an animated series with the same name through The Disney Channel in 2014.

I’m always impressed by the level of science in a children’s show. Though Hiro’s and Tadashi’s inventions, you learn a lot about how engineering can influence robotics including multifunction fighting robots or lifesaving robotic caretakers. The movie takes the time to appreciate science and engineering engaging the audience in the subjects.

Big Hero 6 Characters

Hiro Hamada, played by Ryan Potter, is a fourteen-year-old robotics engineer is intelligent but arrogant of his skills. He admires his brother Tadashi, played by Daniel Henney, .and wants to follow in his footsteps. He ends up studying robotics at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. He discovers his brother’s creation, Baymax, and discovers who he really is.

Baymax, played by Scott Adsit, is an inflatable robot built to be a portable caretaker. He just wants to help others and sees each person as his patient. Throughout the film, Hiro and Baymax form a closer bond, reminding Hiro of his brother with recordings of his brother’s voice.

Fred, played by T.J. Miller, comes up with the idea of them being a team, from his love of comic books. He is the mascot at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. He is a slacker and is quite lazy despite his thirst for adventure. Fred does offer comedic relief to the other members of the team.

Go Go, played by Jamie Chung, she studies electromagnetics at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. She is tough and athletic, seem in her agility when fighting. Although Go Go isn’t very talkative, when she does speak it comes across as being blunt or sarcastic. Her sarcastic wit is usually how she shows affection to the other members of the team.

Wasabi, played by Damon Wayans Jr., studies lasers at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. He is seen as being anxious but is willing to defend his friends when they’re in trouble. The weapon he wields are sword like lasers cutting through anything. Wasabi is the most grounded character within the team.

Hiro is the youngest to ever be accepted into the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. While there he discovers Baymax, an invention created by his brother to help be a medical aide to everyone everywhere.  While at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, he befriends those he met on his tour.

Personal View

I would give the film an eight out of ten rating. There is not much music throughout the film except the song Immortals by Fall Out Boy. Usually with a Disney film, there are a lot of songs including the instrumental score. The animations used throughout the film help bring the futuristic universe to life. The characters are fully developed giving a purpose to why they would come together and form a team.

Furthermore, the futuristic setting has bright colors and science. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses adding a balance to the team. Each character can develop and help the other members of the team evolve and grow. The animated series focus on the team showing them grow together as a unique family.

Burned it!
