There are numerous detective stories in the world with them all dating back to the first fiction detective. Sherlock Homes is the person many people consider as the original. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created the man behind the legends creating a character some believe to be real.
The World’s Greatest Detective
Sherlock Homes was an intellectual genius that assisted Scotland Yard in solving cases. Homes uses conductive reasoning, observations, and his knowledge of forensic science to solve cases. His associate Doctor John Watson assists Holmes in his cases writing the biology of the extracted man. Many of the cases take place at 221B Bakers Street, the home the duo shared until Watson moves out after his marriage. When not solving cases, Holmes spent his time experimenting and playing his viola.
Sherlock’s Greatest Nemesis
If Holmes was the symbol of the perfect detective, then who was his opposite when it came to the crime world? Professor James Mortiarty was the ruler of the crime world and was Holmes equal. His goal in life is to rid the world of Sherlock by any means necessary. Mortiarty is a genius like Holmes but is short-tempered easily becoming anger when his plans end up failing. He is independent and will get his hands dirty to achieve his goals.
While visiting London, England, I got to experience visiting Sherlock in his home by visiting the Sherlock Holmes Museum on Bakers Street. It was a tiny, narrow three-story building with a gift shop on the bottom floor, Holmes flat on the second and the top level dedicated to Moriarty.
It was fascinating to see how the man would have lived if Sherlock Holmes was a real person and not a man created by ink. Despite him being unrealistic I have always been a fan of Holmes growing up reading about the cases he’s solved and fulling my own interests in puzzling situations and the solutions behind them.
Furthermore, despite the detective and criminal mastermind being fictional characters many use Holmes techniques to solve crimes in the real world. Due to such a following there is some who question if these characters could exist in the real world. For what ever must remain even unpredictable must be true as Holmes is often known to say to explain the unique and bizarre.
Now, shush, I’m trying to read,
