Do you feel the magic in the air? As October begins, one gets excited by the idea of enjoying colder weather, apple cider, and pumpkins! The best part of October is the arrival of Halloween, so in celebration Our Fantasy Realm is counting down the days with festive Halloween films.
31 Nights of Halloween
Every year the network Freeform, which was formally known as ABC Family, releases a series of spooky films between the first week of October running up until Halloween night. It originally began in 1998 and was influenced by the Disney Channel’s Twenty-Five Days of Christmas, where they feature Christmas films leading up to Christmas Eve.
A Magical Holiday
How does Halloween tie to fantasy when many associate films featuring paranormal with the spooky holiday? The films we will be covering ties with magic, animation, folklore, the afterlife, and other things that are not explained by science.
Halloween or Samhain is a magically charged day where the veil between our world and the spirit world is down. Many choose to celebrate the day either by trick or treating, hosting a Halloween party, or having a movie marathon.
We will be covering films that are anime showing our enjoyment of both American and Japanese films created in the Halloween spirit. Some of the films that many are familiar with is Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas both animated films directed by Tim Burton. We will also be covering Pixar’s Monsters Inc and Disney’s Hocus Pocus.
Fascination of Halloween
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays whether you’re a fan of fantasy, comedy, or paranormal there are many ways you can celebrate the festive holiday. For me, each year, I enjoy getting dressed up in a costume and going trick or treating. After collecting tons of candy I binge on many movies with my family that will be reviewed throughout the month of October.
How will you be celebrating the month of October and Halloween?
Hopefully these films inspire you to embark on an adventure seeking magic, witches, or goblins.
