The Addams Family is known for putting a spooky spin on what is considered normal in society. They are known for going over the top on Halloween, but they have the same flare for other holidays as well. In the film, The Addams Family Values shows how to make Summer camp spooky.
After the birth of their third child, Rubert Morticia and Gomez hire a nanny to watch over the children. After Wednesday and Pugsley chase away a handful of caretakers, the parents settle on Debbie who they assume is a kind woman with interest in Uncle Fester. She is a black widow after the Addams fortune ensuring that no one not even the children get in her way.
Wednesday Addams (Christina Ricci) is the eldest Addams child and takes fun in tormenting her younger brother. She is intelligent and sarcastic known for undermining other ploys when put against the family.
Pugsley Addams (Jimmy Workman) is naive and sees his sisters’ punishments as signs of endearment. His shy personality allows his sister to oversee plans following her lead without question.
Debbie Jelinsky (Joan Cusack) is a sweet and loving woman who adores children and takes care of them as a living. This is a cover for who she really is, a vain, selfish black widow that kills men for their money. She is ruled by her greedy actions and will hurt others to achieve her goals.
Uncle Fester Addams (Christopher Lloyd) is the fun uncle that enjoys acting like a fool and playing pranks with the children. He falls in love with Debbie being naïve to the fact she can barely stand the sight of him.
Spooky or Unique
Out of the movies created for the series this is my favorite. I enjoyed that it had a holiday theme throughout the film, yet kept the spooky thrills accustomed with the Gothic family. I would rate this movie a seven out of ten due to my favorite scene being when the children attend summer camp.
Wednesday has always been my favorite member of the Addams family being sarcastic and rebellious and being resourceful when people try to change her. The additional story about Fester’s new wife could have been left out, since it overshadows the scenes of the children. Besides her being the villain in the movie, I felt that Debbie could have been taken out and not been missed by the viewers.
The film adds a dark humor to the storyline yet its still considered a family film. The Addams Family was created for those that were considered loners and outcasts in society showing them to accept what separates them from those who act normal. The series shows that we should accept our imperfections instead of hiding them and trying to blend in to make others happy.
