New Breath Upon an Icy Dawn

A drop of blood left my ear,
said the knight to the nervous sage.
An ominous force flew by my window,
blotting out every page.

The east-wind blew
and breathed ice on the wall
and the golden spider came.
And upon the months were endless toil,
to faces without a veil.

Kings were lost in the trapping vine
and true maidens all sat down.
An icy tear left my eye
and my head without its crown.

The lights went dim
and the wolf howled
a scorching wind prevailed.
Human spirit torn to the ground,
left its soul without its sail.
An onward went the year, on,
said the sighing sage.

But a king had hoped
for something new,
the dawning of an age.
